Dundee United fan’s cup final misery ended in street brawl

Excitement soon turned to pain for Dundee United fans at last season's cup final.
Excitement soon turned to pain for Dundee United fans at last season's cup final.

A boozed-up Dundee United fan had a street brawl with his brother after his team lost the Scottish Cup final.

Bradley Milne had seen his side lose 2-0 to St Johnstone at Celtic Park in the end of season showpiece on May 17.

The 21-year-old, of North George Street, Dundee, had been drowning his sorrows after the result, and finished the night by fighting with his brother and police.

Police spotted Milne shortly after midnight on the city’s Strathmartine Road being held back by his brother.

Depute fiscal Mohammad Sadiqsaid: “He seemed to be highly intoxicated and was shouting and swearing atmembers of the public and challenging them to fight.

“His brother was then unable to control him and they fell to the ground and began to fight.

“Officers attempted to split them up and the accused started to lash out at them with his legs and arms.”

Milne’s lawyer told Dundee Sheriff Court that his client had been drinking for the best part of the day and was upset by his side’s defeat.

Defence solicitor Kevin Hampton said: “He had been at the Scottish Cup final and his team had lost. He continued to drink to drown his sorrows and he has littlerecollection of events.

“His brother wastrying to calm him down.He had had far too much to drink.

“He can’t remember what started the argument with the initial male. He doesn’t really recall what happened but accepts he was in the wrong.”

He added that there was no suggestion that football played a part in his client’s actions.

Fining him £400, Sheriff Alistair Brown told Milne: “It sounds as though you can’t hold your drink.”

Milne admitted that on May 18, atStrathmartine Road, he conducted himself in a disorderly manner and shouted, swore, challenged the lieges to a fight, engaged in a stand up fight and threatened policeofficers with violence and committed a breach of the peace. He also admitted resisting four police officers by repeatedly lashing out with his arms and legs and struggling violently.
