Contractors have been accused of being inconsiderate of child safety after blocking a pavement outside a nursery.
Television cable laying works for Virgin Media have blocked Yarrow Terrace, a road already classified as high risk by Dundee City Council.
A stretch of pavement opposite Menzieshill Nursery was closed while works on both pavements were completed, meaning families with young children were forced to walk on the road.
Parents and residents questioned why no pedestrian path was provided during the works.
Resident Ian Morris said: “The contractors have provided no fenced-off pedestrian bypass in the road alongside, nor is it easy for pedestrians to cross the road at this point…
“It certainly shows an absolute lack of health and safety risk assessment, general consideration, or impact-planning.
“For contractors to just go ahead and block a stretch of pavement adjacent to a nursery is ridiculous.
“I have tried myself to contact Virgin but end up in a web of automated messages.”
Works also blocked off the pavement which is used by parents to park when dropping children off at the nursery.
Mr Morris said: “Apart from the risk to pedestrians, it will displace cars parked for nursery drop-off purposes to further congest Yarrow Terrace and Denoon Terrace around school start/finish times.”
Virgin Media spokesperson Dana Hashem said: “Contract engineers working on behalf of Virgin Media recently carried out some work on Yarrow Terrace with permission from the local authority.
“The work is now mostly complete but we’ll be speaking to the contractors about how the site was managed and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
A crossing on the road has been left in a temporary state, and requires to be permanently reinstated.
Virgin Media confirmed that they have gained permission from Dundee City Council to complete these short works after the New Year.
A Dundee City Council spokesman said: “We have instructed Virgin Media to carry out the operation in a safe manner.”
