Dunfermline boss Jim Jefferies remains confident his side can book their place in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup despite their late lapse at Stranraer.
The Pars looked to have earned their spot in Monday’s fifth round draw when Gregor Buchanan gave them a 2-0 lead at Stair Park, but the home side reduced arrears with 10 minutes to go before an equaliser deep into stoppage time meant the teams will have to do it all again at East End Park on Tuesday night.
The winners of the replay now know they will have a home tie against Jackie McNamara’s Dundee United in the next round, and Jefferies hopes his men can finish the job they started at the weekend.
“We now have the advantage because we are at home,” he noted.
“We have always done well against Stranraer at home so hopefully we can do it again.
“We are not down about the performance on Saturday, although it feels like a win for them and it feels like a loss for us because we were in a great position and it would have been a great result.
“It will still be a good cup tie when we play the replay but we will have the home advantage and a good crowd behind us.
“We have always done well against them at our ground so we need to go out and do it again.”
Before that replay, however, the Pars have another important league game at home to Ayr United on Saturday and the club is awaiting confirmation if any further action is to be taken against Jefferies after he was sent to the stand late on at the weekend.
The Pars manager was ordered off by referee Des Roache but later explained that he had merely been trying to shout instructions to Faissal El Bakhtaoui as the game reached its frantic conclusion.
“It is the first time I have been sent to the stand for trying to get a message to one of my own players!” he commented.
“I never shouted at the referee or the linesman or got involved in anything.
“When the ball was dead, yes I went on to the pitch but it is only a yard from the box (technical area).”
