East Fife v Montrose: Fifers hope for much-needed home win

East Fife’s Ross Campbell insists his side will be determined to deliver something for the home fans to shout about when Montrose come calling today.

The Bayview faithful have not seen their side win in Methil since a 3-1 success over East Stirling at the end of August, with Gary Naysmith’s men only mustering seven points from a possible 21 in front of their own support thus far.

“It’s in everyone’s aspirations to do better, both individually and collectively, and we’re not doing that at the moment,” Campbell said.

“We expect better from ourselves and we’re just not delivering for the gaffer.

“It’s not the gaffer’s fault, or the staff or the club because we get well looked after we just need to do better.

“So I think the fans deserve to see us win another game at home.

“East Fife are a good community club and I think we’ve only won one game at home against East Stirling this season, which isn’t good enough.

“We beat Montrose earlier in the season but we won’t take anything for granted.

“Hopefully things will come together.”

The Fifers hammered Montrose 4-0 at Links Park back in September but it was one of just four wins they have managed to pick up this season.

Nevertheless, they sit in fourth spot on the same points as both Annan and today’s visitors, and will be looking to close the gap on the top three with a win.

Campbell was disappointed after last week’s game in which the Fifers conceded a second half equaliser at East Stirling to take just a solitary point.

“It was two points dropped in our opinion,” he said.

“Credit to East Stirling , but from our point of view it wasn’t good enough for the standards we set for ourselves.

Boss Gary Naysmith has done his homework on Montrose this week and knows the Gable Endies will head south with renewed confidence after they ended a nine game run without a win in midweek.

“Queen’s Park, Albion Rovers and Arbroath have all put together a run that we need to go on now,” he said.

“We really need to start winning our home games because if we were winning our home games then all these points we’ve been picking up away from home would be really good points.”

The Fifers will again be without Alan Cook, who is still two or three weeks away from returning to action.
