Mr Gorrie attended Dudhope Primary School and then Logie Central before becoming an engineer with the Robert Kelly foundry in Dock Street. He joined the navy in the second world war and was an engine artificer aboard HMS Glasgow and HMS Bermuda. He was invalided out in 1944. He then worked for the Victoria Spinning Company and the Central Baths and retired in 1984. Mr Gorrie was a founding member, and then captain, of the 26th Boys’ Brigade at Gilfillan. He and his late wife Ina had three children, Douglas, Eileen and Hazel. Sadly, Hazel died after only 10 days. He is survived by Douglas and Eileen, daughter-in-law Anne, son-in-law Alex and by his brother William.
