The last in the line of the Burness jute mill family from Inverbervie has died, aged 83.
Isles John Burness was born in Stonehaven and grew up at Castle Terrace in Inverbervie, attending the local primary school.
Following his education at Mackie Academy in Stonehaven, he studied at college in Dundee before joining his father in running the Carron Jute Mill.
During the war he served in the medical corps, then rejoined the mill before becoming a postman.
A keen cyclist, Mr Burness was a member of Inverbervie Tennis Club. He was a founder member of the Bervie Heritage Society, helped to run the gala week and organised the annual treasure hunt.
He died at Haven Court Nursing Home in Stonehaven on December 28.
