Neighbouring business objects to joinery firm’s woodburning plant plan

A joinery firm wants to burn its off-cuts to heat its factory.
Joinery and Timber Creations is based at the former Timex works on the Dryburgh industrial estate.
It argues that having a woodburning plant will prevent waste wood being sent to landfill.
The nearest house is more than 200m away, but one neighbouring business has objected to JTC’s planning application by claiming its workers would be exposed to particulate matter from the 24m chimney.
City council planning officers are recommending approval of the woodburning scheme when it goes before councillors next week.
Their report explains that the Scottish Environment Protection Agency has granted a permit for the plant.
Its view is that the chimney will be high enough to disperse ground-level pollutants to an acceptable level.
