WHAT LINKS a bat’s navigation system to a dancing set of bubbles and a pint of Guinness?
This was just one of the mind-boggling question’s posed last night during Abertay University’s Christmas lecture, which this year studied ultrasound.
Professor David Bremner discussed the amazing variety of uses for ultrasound and explained how it all works.
The Abertay professor, who is one of the world’s leading experts in ultrasonics, also discussed at the public lecture how ultrasound is used to make high-tech swimwear, mobile phone ringtones and even Doctor Who’s sonic screwdriver.
“Ultrasound is all around us, from nature to science, music to medicine, and everywhere in between we just can’t hear it,” he said.
