Phones give domestic abuse victims in Dundee a lifeline
ByThe Courier Reporter
Victims of domestic abuse in Tayside are being given a lifeline thanks to the Asda Myrekirk store.
It has donated 22 mobile phones to the police to help keep victims of domestic abuse safe.
The phones will be handed out to partners at risk, giving them a vital contact to the police in case of emergency.
Detective Inspector Tom Leonard of the domestic abuse investigation unit said: “Being able to give victims of domestic abuse a mobile phone to stay in touch with police and loved ones is vital.”
Mel Smith, community life colleague at the store, said: “There are so many cases of domestic violence throughout the city, this is something we really wanted to get behind.
“These phones cost about £5 each, they are the most basic but they give victims a lifeline.”
