A Dundee radio station boss has expressed his gratitude for the help the Maggie’s Centre network gave him and his family in his wife’s final months.
Tracy Findlay was only 46 when she succumbed to cancer last year.
Husband Adam said she received much-needed practical, emotional and social support as a regular visitor to the Maggie’s in Edinburgh and he has visited with daughter Jemma several times since.
Adam, who is managing director of Wave 102, said: “We have all had so much support from Maggie’s. The hospital treats the physical aspects of cancer but Maggie’s treats the emotional experience of it all.”
He is now planning to pay the charity back for its help by taking part in its Monster Bike and Hike fundraiser, which has seen more than £5 million donated over the past decade to help meet the network’s running costs.
“Signing up for Monster seemed like a good way to give something back,” he said. “I hear it is a fabulous event even though I know I will have to do quite a bit of training before I am ready to tackle the bronze challenge.”
The 24-hour challenge, which sees people cycle 31 miles and then walk nine, 23 or 41 miles to get a bronze, silver or gold award, takes place on May 3 and 4 on the Great Glen Way between Fort William and Inverness.
Hundreds of fundraisers have already signed up.
