A former St Andrews University student who is facing claims he poisoned a fellow student is being sued by his alleged victim for $5 million.
American Alexander Hilton is wanted in Scotland over the alleged attempted murder of fellow student Robert Forbes. However, he has been granted a stay of extradition over fears he could commit suicide.
It is alleged that Hilton, who was 19 at the time, spiked a bottle of wine with antifreeze and gave it to Mr Forbes before the New Hall Ball at the Fairmont St Andrews in March 2011.
Now Mr Forbes, 22, has filed a $5m civil lawsuit in the US against Hilton and his parents, seeking damages for assault and battery, emotional distress and negligence.
Mr Forbes, who is also from the US, spent a week in hospital. He suffered symptoms including loss of vision.
