An offshore worker who forced police to pull over on a dual carriageway to restrain him has escaped with a fine, after telling a court he could pay it from his £65,000 salary.
Malcolm Stewart, 50, was fined £900 after he admitted threatening officers with violence.
Perth Sheriff Court was told the officer driving the car had to pull over to get in the back and assist his colleague in restraining oil worker Stewart.
The court was told that Stewart was irate because he was being taken to police headquarters in connection with an allegation of domestic violence at his home.
Stewart, of Boniface Road, Invergowrie, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner in a police vehicle travelling on the A90 towards Perth on December 14 last year.
He admitted shouting, swearing and threatening PC Greig Farmer and PC Alan Sharp.
A charge of assaulting his wife Nicola Stewart by repeatedly pushing her on the body and punching her face, to her injury, on the same date was dropped by the Crown.
