Body found after full-scale search of River Tay at Perth
ByPaul Reoch
The body of a woman has been recovered from the River Tay following a massive search and rescue operation, The Courier understands.
Emergency services rushed to the scene near Moncrieffe Island at around 2pm on Tuesday, after a member of public raised the alarm.
It is understood there had been concerns about the woman’s behaviour earlier in the day and there were subsequent reports of clothing spotted on the island.
Firefighters were joined by search and rescue teams from the Coastguard and specialist medical services, while Police Scotland deployed a helicopter from Glasgow to assist with the operation.
Sniffer dogs were also used to comb the island, while officers carried out a painstaking search on foot.
RIB craft from the Coastguard and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spent three hours frantically scouring the river in a bid to find the woman.
A lifeboat was also despatched from Newburgh to help with their efforts.
Sadly, by 5pm, the operation was stood down after a body was understood to have been recovered from the water.
