Ice hockey: Fife Flyers must bounce back against Hull Stingrays

Fife Flyers’ playcaller Danny Stewart looks to bounce back after defeat at Nottingham Panthers when the Kirkcaldy club travel to Hull Stingrays.

The fiesty Canadian should have a full squad to pick from and he said: “The Hull game starts a tough sequence for the guys, who play Belfast Giants at home on Saturday and Dundee away at the weekend.

“We continue to play well even if we made one or two mistakes late in the game at Nottingham on Sunday, which they capitalised on.

“The guys also remain confident and we aim to keep our recent run going.”

Stewart’s men have collected 15 points from a possible 18 and he added: “We’re playing one game at a time right now and we hope the guys show the same attitude and effort they’ve been showing lately, which has put us back in with a chance of a play-off spot.”

A win would take ninth-placed Fife to 47 points and level with Cardiff Devils, who occupy the eighth and final play-off place. Fife also have a game in hand.

Hull player-coach Sylvain Cloutier believes they can go a long way to securing an Elite League play-off place with victory over Fife and Stingrays have been boosted by a 5-1 home win over high-flying Sheffield Steelers on Saturday.

Victory for Stingrays would take them to 50 points, a club-record number in the Elite League.

Flyers have beaten Stingrays in the last two meetings with an aggregate score of 14-5 and Cloutier said: “We need to find a way to beat them because Fife have had our number in the last couple of games.”
