Motorists are being urged to lock their cars after sneak thieves targeted unsecured vehicles in Glenrothes.
Items including money, satnavs and iPods were stolen from 17 vehicles in the Balfarg area of the town overnight between Wednesday and Thursday (MARCH 12 and 13) last week.
The cars were parked in a number of different streets. Some were parked on the street and others were in driveways.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
Community officer PC Paul Stather said: “Only cars that were unlocked were targeted. It is a fact of life that we have to keep our possessions locked up and I urge all drivers to ensure that when they park, they take their valuables with them and make sure they lock their cars.
“Even a few coins lying visible in a vehicle can make it a target, so I would ask that these are tidied away. A suction mark on the windscreen left by a satnav may alert a would-be thief that it may have been left inside, such as in the glove compartment, and this would make the vehicle a target, so wipe such marks off regularly.
“I am appealing to anyone who has any information about these thefts, or if they saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, to contact police by phoning 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
