This year’s Arbroath Music Festival has been hailed as one of the best in its 82-year history.
Over the course of five days, the competition attracted the very best of young musical talents from Angus, Dundee, the Mearns and Fife.
Now the dust has settled at the Webster Memorial Theatre and all instruments are at rest, attendees can reflect on some of the best individual and group performances seen in the town in living memory.
The festival’s honorary secretary Muriel Steven said events had gone very well despite having additional time pressure on around 150 categories.
“(Executive committee chairwoman) Sheena Guthrie said to me it was one of the best festivals they’ve ever had,” she said.
“And the standard throughout was excellent outstanding. Friday night was the best night we’ve had in a long time.”
Lucy, 9, and Matthew Crabb, 12, from Brechin, won the competition’s highest award, the blue riband, on brass and piano respectively.
Christopher Flynn (93) and Jordan Robertson (92) scored the highest marks of the competition in a hotly contested open brass category.
Although 14-year-old Chris took the honour, the adjudicator’s award went to 15-year-old Jordan.
John Kerr received the first presentation of the Stewart Low Cup for vocal excellence.
