T in the Park’s future in Perth and Kinross looks secure, despite fears it may have to move from Balado.
Organisers DF Concerts have been forced to look at alternative sites for the country’s largest music festival due to the presence of a “major hazard pipeline” in close proximity to its 85,000 revellers.
Concerns were even raised last month that the festival could be lost to Stirling.
However, the organisers remain committed to the region and Perth and Kinross Council has pledged to keep the event as it searches for new sites locally.
The Courier understands that the preferred option is still to remain in Kinross-shire, where the event has made its home since moving from Strathclyde Park in 1997.
Should that not be possible, however, sites at Strathallan Airfield by Auchterarder and at Drumdowie, between Muthill and Braco, are among those believed to have been assessed.
Perth and Kinross Council leader Councillor Ian Miller said: “This is one of the largest open-air events in the whole of the country and we are delighted to have it here. I am totally confident that its future is secure in our area.”
