Designs for the overhaul of an Angus town centre have been revealed.
The redevelopment of Kirriemuir Square has been at the planning stage for months, and Angus Council has released its final designs off the drawing board, right.
Planners are looking to make the square a “key focal point for the cultural identity of Kirriemuir” and reinvigorate it by replacing damaged paving slabs and introducing new street furniture.
The square’s design is based on a timeline that curves around the space, starting from a circle around the Peter Pan statue.
It would be formed with a granite band inscribed with text from JM Barrie’s work, and would end with the possible location of a statue for Bon Scott.
Proposals also include curved timber and stainless steel seating to match the form of the granite band.
It will also feature inset granite squares with engraved relief images, highlighting aspects of Kirriemuir’s cultural past.
It is proposed the design of both granite squares and the tree guard will be developed with local schoolchildren.
Drawings can be viewed and comments given in the library and ACCESS Office in Kirriemuir from Monday, and online at www.angus.gov.uk/hys.
There will also be a public meeting in the fire station at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
