A Kirkcaldy man who left maggots in a woman’s jacket pocket after stalking her at her work has received a community payback order.
Alan Frew, 56, of Findhorn Place, repeatedly followed the woman to her place of work and tried to talk to her after she had finished, where he uttered offensive and sexual remarks towards her.
Frew entered the woman’s car and left torn-up photos scattered inside as well as filling her pockets with maggots.
Depute fiscal Katrine Craig said: “Following her shift he was waiting for her. He called her a whore and a slut. She would return to her car to find cut-up photos. She found several cigarette burns on her sleeves and her pockets filled with maggots.”
At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Friday, Sheriff Max Hendry said Frew’s actions were “troubling and alarming”.
He said: “This case is not only bizarre but, in particular from the lady’s point of view, alarming and may have caused her considerable distress.”
Frew admitted that on a number of occasions between July 1 2012 and September 21 2013 at Victoria Hospital, and elsewhere in Kirkcaldy, he engaged in a course of conduct which caused a woman fear and alarm.
He pleaded guilty to repeatedly following her to her place of work and admitted entering her car without her consent and leaving damaged photos, and placing maggots in her clothing.
Sheriff Hendry sentenced Frew to a two-year community payback order that included supervision. He also ordered Frew not to approach or contact the victim for one year.
