A Dundee woman has beaten homelessness to be named this year’s Action for Children Scotland’s Woman of Influence.
Kimberley Low, 20, turned to the charity after becoming homeless when she was only 16.
She stayed at the charity’s Dundee Youth Housing service, where she received support to rebuild her life.
“Four years after becoming homeless, I now have a flat of my own and I’m studying for an HNC in social care,” said Kimberley.
“I also work with Action for Children Scotland, and enjoy giving something back to the charity that helped me.”
Kimberley was honoured with the Woman of Influence Community Award at a charity lunch in Glasgow.
Each year, Action for Children Scotland gives the prestigious award to a young woman who has grown in ability as a result of support received from its services.
Kimberley said: “I am thrilled to have received this award. I faced some really difficult times early in my life, but I am determined to use my experience to help others.”
Television journalist Kirsty Wark was also honoured, receiving the Woman of Influence award, which celebrates women who have had an important impact on society.
