The Courier investigates: Curriculum for Excellence
ByAlan Richardson
Pupils will begin sitting new exams under the Curriculum for Excellence after the Easter holidays.
The new system has been branded a “shambles” by some, with evidence of low staff morale, pupil dissatisfaction and parental confusion.
In a special series this week, The Courier will examine some of the issues around Curriculum for Excellence and its early impact in secondary schools.
We speak to its architects, teachers, students, politicians and unions and question whether the system is fit for purpose and delivering on the ambitious objectives set out by the Scottish Government.
We begin on Tuesday by outlining how fourth year pupils in Courier Country face a “postcode lottery” over the number of exams they can sit and the effect this could have on their prospects and the system itself.
For the first part of our four-day series, see Tuesday’s Courier or try our digital edition.
