The relaunch of Jolly’s Hotel in Broughty Ferry as a JD Wetherspoon pub begins next Tuesday.
The company has spent £2.23 million buying and upgrading the Gray Street outlet, which has been a landmark for more than 150 years.
The pub will be open from 7am until midnight Sunday to Thursday and to 1am on Friday and Saturday, with food served until 11pm.
Children will be admitted under usual conditions and the pub will be wheelchair accessible.
Jolly’s will feature a bar, an open kitchen and a courtyard beer garden where smoking will be permitted in a designated area.
The hotel is over two floors and has 25 bedrooms with en suite bathroom and other facilities.
The firm says the project has created 60 jobs.
Jolly’s Hotel was named after John Jolly who is first recorded in the Dundee Directory for 1850/1, as a spirit dealer in Gray Street.
Photographs, local history, commissioned artwork and information boards relating to events, history and characters of the area will be displayed in the pub. They include material on The Courier publisher DC Thomson.
Jolly’s manager Chris Bankier said: “Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into the pub and we are confident that it will be a great addition to the Broughty Ferry community.”
JD Wetherspoon’s arrival caused apprehension that it may affect other Broughty Ferry pubs, but company spokesman Eddie Gershon said the development will act as a catalyst for other businesses to invest in the area.
