Police say they believe remains found in north east Fife could be those of missing Newport woman Susan Reid.
The body was discovered in Tenstmuir Forest on Tuesday. The Dundee University librarian has not been in contact with her family since January 21.
A statement from Police Scotland said early indications suggest that the remains could be Susan, however formal identification has yet to take place.
Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale said: “Investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the find at Tentsmuir and we have informed Susan’s family of the discovery and specially trained Family Liaison Officers continue to work closely with the family, as they have been throughout the missing person enquiry”.
