A man who racially abused a takeaway delivery driver has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.
Daniel Reid used an abusive term towards Asif Khurshid after unsuccessfully trying to claim an Indian food order, which was for a property nearby, as his own.
Depute fiscal Lisa Marshall told Perth Sheriff Court that Mr Khurshid encountered the 21-year-old in the common close of Menzies Court in Perth on June 6 last year.
She said Reid told Mr Khurshid to go back the way he came, forcing him to return to his vehicle.
Reid then approached the driver and began shouting at him, leaving the delivery driver shaken. Mr Khurshid returned to work and called the police.
Upon being charged, Reid told officers he was “very sorry”.
Solicitor John McLaughlin, defending, said Reid had earlier had an argument with his family.
“The poor delivery man bore the brunt of his ire,” he said.
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis ordered Reid, of Menzies Court, to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and placed him on a 12-month supervision order.
