Hold the front page! Politicians can speak with a forked tongue when they are desperately trying to sell something that’s the public is perhaps sceptical about.
Surprising? Not really, but when the country’s financial industry body comes out and says it about the independence debate it’s worth sitting up and taking notice.
It’s somewhat depressing to see the supposed great bastions of fact in the campaign the Scottish Government’s white paper and the UK Government’s analysis papers derided by such a prominent group.
Scotland’s Future “cannotbe seen as a balanced or reliable guide” while the Scotland Analysis series should be treated with “a degree of caution”. At least they’re “more detailed and factual than the papers produced by the Scottish Government”, I hear you cry.
That’s cold comfort, though. I’m tired of half-truths and assertions. I’m tired of unchanging rhetoric with more heat than light. And, you know what? I bet you readers are too.
