A decision on whether to license Dundee’s first rickshaw operation has been deferred.
Entrepreneur Adam Gierak has proposed to introduce the bike-based mode of transport, arguing that it will provide customers with a safe and environmentally friendly way of getting round the city.
Mr Gierak, who is from Poland, plans on starting out with two rickshaws one ridden by himself and another by a second driver.
His rickshaws would go by the name Scottish Eco-taxis, and he says they will offer three types of trip.
But taxi unionists have hit back at the plans, claiming the rickshaws could be unsafe, could clog up the city’s streets and may not be suitable for the disabled.
Licensing convener Councillor Stewart Hunter proposed to defer a vote on whether or not to grant Mr Gierak a licence for the business, offering him time to respond to the taxi drivers’ concerns in writing.
