Angus folk are being invited to be part of the Commonwealth Games by volunteering to help with the Queen’s Baton Relay event.
The baton will pass through Angus on Saturday June 28 ahead of the Commonwealth Games shooting competition at Barry Buddon, between July 25 and 29.
Bearers have this week learned of their honour in being selected to carry the baton and Angus Council, in conjunction with Voluntary Action Angus (VAA), is inviting residents to be part of the games experience by promoting the county, welcoming visitors and making sure that the games events are an enjoyable and safe experience.
The convener of the Angus Games steering group, Councillor Jeanette Gaul, said: “I’d like to urge members of the public to donate a few hours of their time throughout the day or evening to help with a variety of roles available.”
VAA chief executive Gary Malone said: “All volunteers will receive training and support prior to the event to help them make this an enjoyable experience for the public and themselves.”
VAA is also running an information and awareness session for interested parties in Forfar next Tuesday and Arbroath on Wednesday.
