Glamis Castle has received a boost ahead of its 2014 season after visitors rated it as one of the UK’s best tourism attractions for the second consecutive year.
At a ceremony in Glasgow, the Angus landmark was honoured in the Awards of Excellence given by Irish bus tour operator CIE Tours International, which recognised the breadth and quality of Scotland’s hotels and visitor attractions.
The award scheme delivered merit accolades to suppliers or attractions which achieved an overall customer satisfaction rating of 90% or over, based on customer feedback.
CIE Tours, which was named travel operator of the year by Scotland’s Heritage for 2013 and 2014, brought 11,000 visitors to the UK in 2013 and is anticipating an increase of 20% in numbers this year, due to interest generated by Homecoming Scotland.
Company managing director Brian Stack said: “Scotland is going to be a particularly exciting place to be this year and we have collaborated with VisitScotland on marketing activity around Homecoming Scotland and are enjoying a great boost in early bookings as a result.”
Doreen Stout of Glamis Castle received the award on behalf of the team at the 600-year-old attraction, which officially opens for the new season on Saturday.
She said: “Once again we are delighted to be receiving this prestigious award.
“It is always a pleasure to work closely with CIE to develop our guided tours which reflect the enthusiasm of the visitors CIE bring.”
