Dundee striker Craig Beattie bankrupt with £70,000 debts
ByThe Courier Reporter
Dundeestriker Craig Beattie has declared himself bankrupt after running up nearly £70,000 in credit card and bank debts.
The former Scotland striker, 30, who has been at Dens Park since September, owes £69,255.33.
He applied for insolvency with the Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) service last week and WRI Associates will assess his finances.
It is understood the money is owed on credit card bills and a bank overdraft. Trustee Ian Wright, of WRI Associates, confirmed Beattie had applied for his own bankruptcy last week.
Mr Wright said: “We are assessing his financial situation and seeing what can be done to benefit his creditors.
“I’m dealing with the bank in relation to a property in the south. Other than that, we will just need to wait and see what happens at the end of the season, where he’s playing and what his contract is.
“There’s not an awful lot I can do at the moment. I’ve only been in contact with the bank on Friday.”
Mr Wright added that Beattie, who lives in Lanark, did not want to comment publicly on the situation. AiB said Mr Beattie’s application for insolvency had been accepted.
