Scottish Grand National: Three chances for Lucinda Russell at Ayr
ByThe Courier Reporter
Lucinda Russell is triple handed in her quest to land the Scottish Grand National at Ayr.
Green Flag, who ran a cracker to finish fourth at the Cheltenham Festival, heads the market in the sponsors Coral’s books and is rated a 10-1 shot under stable jockey Peter Buchanan.
Russell’s up and coming jockey Craig Nichol takes the ride on Lie Forrit, who was successful last time out at Kelso and Lucy Alexander partners Nuts N Bolts.
The Kinross trainer is enjoying her best ever season with 62 winners chalked up already and she is only one short of Len Lungo’s record for a Scottish-based trainer.
She said: “The Scottish National has always been up there as a race I have wanted to win, so having three live chances is great.
“I have been training for 20 years and we have 85 horses in which is a record for the yard and to win on Saturday wouldn’t just be great for us and the team at home but good for Scottish racing as a whole.”
The meeting starts today at 2.10.
