Excitement has reached fever pitch in Perth as thousands of Saints fans prepare to cheer on their heroes.

More than 3,000 St Johnstone supporters will head to Ibrox for the Scottish Cup semi-final clash against Aberdeen on Sunday.

Among them will be 50-year-old super fan Michael Clark, who will make a mad dash from Budapest.

He works in Hungary for a confectionery company and will fly to Manchester, where he will hire a car and drive to Perth to grab a last-minute ticket from McDiarmid Park before joining his friends in Glasgow.

Although the Perth side have failed to win any of their previous semi-final matches, fans are hopeful that this will be their year.

The team currently sits in sixth place in the Scottish Premiership and they have won five out their last eight games.

Football administrator at St Johnstone Paul Smith welcomed the support from dedicated fans.

He said: “The club is absolutely delighted with the response from the 3,000 people who are coming along to support us.

“We have got a very loyal following, so we are very pleased. Hopefully the team will be able to give them the result they are looking for and deserve.”

Meanwhile, more than 100 supporters are expected to enjoy the game on the big screen at Perth Playhouse.
