Former Dundee United goalkeeper Rolando Ugolini has died at the age of 89.
Born in Lucca, Italy, he started his career with Armadale Thistle before signing for Celtic in March 1944.
In four seasons at Parkhead he played just five times before being transferred to Middlesbrough in 1948.
He spent 10 years on Teesside, making more than 300 appearances and becoming a legendary figure.
Ugolini moved to Wrexham in 1957 and then responded to manager Jerry Kerr’s appeal to delay his retirement and add some experience to the newly-promoted Dundee United squad in 1960.
At Tannadice, he made 52 appearances before being replaced by Donald Mackay.
He was released in May 1962 and retired from football later that year, but always took a keen interest in the affairs of his former clubs.
He settled latterly in the Edinburgh area and remained active long into retirement, playing golf until recently.
A spokesman for Dundee United said the club’s thoughts were with his family and friends at this sad time.
