A new restaurant is to open in Perth next month, marking a continuing trend in the city. Work is to resume at La Lanterna in George Street after a lull in proceedings. The Perth eatery will serve mainly Italian cuisine and will be run by the Sambuca restaurant group, which is based in the north-east of England. The site was well known at one time as Strangeways public bar and has since operated as an Indian restaurant. A spokesman for La Lanterna confirmed that work is to continue on the building in Perth. “We have been concentrating on a number of restaurants in the north-east of England lately,” he said. “However, we will be returning to work in Perth and should be open next month.” The opening of the restaurant will be the latest move to fill vacant sites in Perth city centre. Gillies have extended their base in George Street and a new coffee shop is set to open in the High Street.
