Angus Council asks for patience during recycling system ‘teething troubles’

Angus Council has encouraged residents to stick with them as they try to deal with a recycling backlog from the district’s new kerbside system.

Introduced in March to help people recycle more materials at home, the authority says there are already signs that recycling rates are rising.

But there have been collection problems in communities including Letham, Carnoustie, Carmyllie and Monifieth.

Pensioner Charles Gibson of Monifieth said that although some of the food refuse bins at the Greenbourne Gardens retirement complex were emptied last week, others were not.

A council spokesman said: “We’ve had a few teething troubles on some of the new recycling collection routes, and would apologise to any customers whose bin hasn’t been emptied as expected.

“Crews are working hard to catch up. If your collection has been missed, please leave your bin out for 48 hours to allow us to catch up.

“If your bin is missed on a Friday, please take it back in and leave out again on a Monday before 7am.”

The spokesman added: “Thank you to all our residents who have been taking the time to recycle the early signs are that recycling levels have shot up.”
