The Scottish SPCA is hunting the callous killers of a much loved pet cat shot dead with an airgun. Casper was found dead in a wooded area close to his home in Kirkcaldy’s Ailsa Grove on Tuesday. The gruesome discovery comes only days after barbaric thugs tied up and burned a dog to death in Dunnikier Woods, not far from where the white male cat was found. Scottish SPCA senior inspector Steven Gray said: “Casper’s owners became concerned when he didn’t return home on Monday night. “The following day his body was discovered in nearby woodland with an obvious puncture wound. “A post mortem examination revealed that Casper had a pellet in his abdomen which was very likely to be the cause of his death. “Casper’s owners are understandably distraught as he was a perfectly healthy cat and a very much thought of as a family member.” Mr Gray said not only was it a cruel act, it was also an offence which can be punished by a prison sentence and a substantial fine of up to £20,000. “We would advise other cat owners in the area to be vigilant.” Anyone with information is asked to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999999 or Police Scotland on 101.
