A seven-year-old boy has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Dundee.
The boy, watched over by his parents, remained in a serious condition with head and leg injuries in the high dependency unit at Ninewells late last night.
Both police and ambulance rushed to the scene at Helmsdale Avenue at around 5pm.
It is understood the boy was struck by a green Honda Civic car as he tried to cross the road.
The occupants of the car were shocked but uninjured, police said.
The road was closed for several hours while crash investigators carried out work.
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We attended at approximately 5pm following reports of a road traffic accident.
“We conveyed a seven-year-old boy to Ninewells hospital from the scene.”
A police spokesman said last night: “The call came to us from the Ambulance Service.
“Inquiries into the full circumstances are being carried out and the road has been closed to allow investigation.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Police Scotland, Tayside Division, on 101, or speak to any police officer.”
