The lifeboat launched shortly before 7pm on Thursday after it was reported a woman was in difficulty. Police Scotland was alerted but officers were stood down when the inshore lifeboat returned after having saved the woman. An ambulance crew took the woman, whose age is unknown, to Ninewells Hospital for treatment. Her condition has not been officially confirmed. The local volunteer crew launched of its own volition without coordination by HM Coastguard. A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 7.04pm and an ambulance has taken the casualty to Ninewells Hospital.” Inspector Graham Young of Tayside Division said officer involvement was minimum due to the fast response of RNLI crewmen. He said: “It was all over very quickly. There are no suspicious circumstances.”
