The Scottish Cup final match programme will feature a tribute to the late Ian Redford as a result of fan power.
The move follows an online campaign by one of the former Dundee United and St Johnstone player’s biggest fans.
Angela Smith, 37, of Edinburgh, said she is “over the moon” that the SFA have granted her request after attracting massive backing from fans of both teams.
She came up with the idea after the Courier country rivals made it to the climax of the Scottish football season on May 17.
A chance for fans of both teams to pay tribute to the player after his untimely death in January was lost when their league fixture at Tannadice that month was postponed.
Tannadice season ticket holder Angela thought an appropriate, if belated, opportunity to celebrate Ian’s life and footballing achievements would be a tribute at the cup final.
She turned to social media with her idea of an article in the match programme at the final, and over 500 people signed her petition.
Both Dundee United and St Johnstone endorsed the plan and the SFA said they would see what they could do.
Angela has now learned that her request has been granted.
She said: “It was a terrible tragedy when he died at the age of 53. My dad started taking me to Tannadice when I was a little girl and Ian Redford was my favourite player.
“It’s great that this is now going to happen and I thank everyone who supported the campaign.”
The petition was run at www.change.org where messages left by fans can still be read.
