Two weeks ago, Forfar’s slim hopes of securing a promotion play-off place looked to have been ended following a 2-0 loss to Angus neighbours Arbroath at home.
Now, on the last day of the regular season, they are in with a chance of an unlikely fourth-place finish.
If Dick Campbell’s side can win at Stranraer this afternoon, Ayr United lose to East Fife and Stenhousemuir fail to beat Brechin, the Loons will be in next week’s play-off semi-finals.
However, if results go badly wrong, Forfar could conceivably end the season third bottom of the table.
Campbell said: “We beat Stranraer twice in March but that will have no bearing this time round.
“I said a couple of weeks ago that our chances of getting into the play-offs were no better than a 33/1 shot in the Grand National and they are probably still about the same now.
“But we have a chance and that is the main thing. The boys were great last week against Ayr and hopefully we can produce a similar performance and result against Stranraer.
“I was always determined that we would have something to play for in the last game of the season.
“Gary Fusco and Dale Hilson are banned but we have Gavin Swankie and Stuart Malcolm back from suspension which is a bonus.”
Stranraer will look to avoid defeat against Forfar and secure the point they need for play-off football despite a miserable run of nine games without a win.
