Former Dundee pharmacist Ron Duncan has died at the age of 93.
Mr Duncan and his wife May ran their pharmacy on Clepington Road, where he was held in great respect, for 37 years.
Educated at Morgan Academy and Dundee School of Pharmacy, Mr Duncan served in Egypt during the Second World War.
He first worked in Jolly’s Pharmacy in Broughty Ferry before he took over the pharmacy at 269 Clepington Road in 1951.
He was a long-time secretary and chairman of the chemist contractors’ committee and member of the area pharmacy committee of Tayside Health Board.
He represented Tayside on the Scottish chemist contractors and served for many years on their standing committee negotiating terms and services with the government.
He was a director of Wallacetown Health Centre Pharmacy from its inception until his retirement in 1988.
Mr Duncan also worked freelance for Boerringer, the German pharmaceutical company, as a technical translator.
A member of Downfield Golf Club for more than 50 years, he was past captain of Dundee and District Pharmacy Golf Club.
With his great friend and fellow pharmacist Bruce Kiddie, Mr Duncan organised the Scottish Pharmacists’ Golf Championship for many years.
He is survived by May, his wife of more than 60 years.
