When heavy rain swept over parts of Scotland in October 2012, it caused havoc in Fife’s Dura Den when the Ceres Burn burst its banks and tore down part of a house.
Extensive damage was also caused to the roads infrastructure. Retaining walls collapsed, the road was undermined, paths were lost and utilities damaged.
In an update to Blebo Community Council on Monday, Fife Council officials will give an update on repairs to the roads network.
Repairs to stone masonry retaining walls have been completed, contract documents for the major works at the landslip areas are well advanced and the council will be issuing a tender in coming weeks.
The first phase of the remedial work is also nearing completion.
As well as repairing damage to retaining walls, this has also improved safety at the previously low sections of parapets. The work also included:
* Reconstruction of retaining walls between Grove House and Charlie’s Rock
* Demolition and reconstruction of approximately 26ft of wall next to Underwood
* Reconstruction of approximately 50ft of wall next to the Laurels.
In addition, around 500ft of new stone parapet has been built opposite Weighbridge Cottage, replacing the existing post and wire fence.
Cupar Fife councillor Karen Marjoram, whose ward includes Dura Den, said: “I’m reassured to hear the remedial works are nearing completion.
“It is good the aesthetics of the project have been taken into consideration. It is also good to see we are at the tendering stage for the major works and I look forward to seeing these commence in September.
“It has been a difficult time for all those affected.”
