St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has admitted he feared the worst when star striker Stevie May went down injured on Wednesday night.
But he was relieved to confirm that no significant damage has been sustained.
Seconds from half-time in the midweek Celtic match, May was felled by Efe Ambrose and did not return for the second 45.
However, the only lasting effect of the challenge is the stud marks down the Scotland under-21 international’s shin.
“Stevie got lucky,” Wright reported. “I’m not saying there was any malice in the challenge but it looked like he had caught a bad one.
“I did get a real fright when he went down. We certainly don’t want players injured with a cup final coming up and obviously Stevie is an important player for us.
“He has got stud marks down his shin but he will be OK. We will take a view with him and others regarding the Inverness game.
“On the plus side Gary Miller is also OK after limping off with an ankle knock.”
Wright will again rotate his squad for Saturday’s last match of the league season, which could secure Saints fifth place in the table.
“We want to win the game and overtake Inverness,” Wright said.
“We can equal our points tally from last year, which shows how strong the top teams have been this season. Players are putting down markers for the cup final squad.”
