A 50-year-old man revealed a woman was HIV positive on Facebook, a court has been told.
Robert Alexander, of Lawton Terrace, also uploaded the woman’s picture and gave her address on the social media site.
Depute fiscal Charmaine Gilmartin told Dundee Sheriff Court of Facebook posts making reference to the woman.
In one, Alexander referred to the woman as not disclosing she had the human immunodeficiency virus.
The court heard the posts were liked by nine people and commented on by six people.
Alexander then posted a photograph of the woman, commenting “HIV riddled, lol” and that she was HIV positive and “slept with men without telling them”.
The fiscal continued: “Three people commented on the photograph and one asked if the complainer lived locally.
“The accused posted the street name of where the complainer lives.”
A mutual friend saw the posts and sent the woman screen shots.
Mrs Gilmartin added: “The complainer was horrified. When the complainer received the screen shots and read the content she was very upset and angry.
“She was concerned about the effect this would have on her employment and also did not want members of her family, who were not aware of her condition, to know about it.”
Police were contacted and Alexander was arrested.
Alexander admitted that on February 9 at a property on Lawton Terrace he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by posting abusive comments on a public forum that disclosed a female’s sensitive medical condition, her address and alleged that she was sexually promiscuous and that she deliberately set out to infect others with her condition and posted a photograph of the female beside the comments.
Defence solicitor Ross Bennett said he would reserve his plea in mitigation for a later sentencing date.
Sheriff Kenneth McGowan deferred sentence until June 6 for social work background reports.
He said: “This is an unusual case.”
