Work is due to begin today on an Angus housing development.
Plans have been drawn up for 10 houses on the east side of Arbroath, with Muirfield Contracts brought in to handle the work.
The plot on Great Michael Road, the former site of Ministry of Defence housing, will be taken up by four flats and six semi-detached houses.
Site accommodation will be set up before work begins on the foundations, and it is hoped the keys will be handed over to tenants by next February.
Ron McArthur, asset manager at Angus Housing Association, said: “We demolished 12 flats there at the back end of last year. They were ex-MoD flats and were beyond saving.”
Mr McArthur said the new flats would not be earmarked for any specific tenant group, but added: “We’ll keep an eye on what the needs of different areas are and continue to work with the local authorities.”
The announcement of the £720,000 project is the latest hefty investment in Arbroath’s housing situation.
It comes less than a month after news of a £700,000 commitment to renovate 12 affordable properties on Millgate Loan.
Angus Council’s communities convener, Donald Morrison, said the work would help address the serious need for one-bedroom homes in the county.
