St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright says their 2-0 defeat in the Highlands on the final day of the league season will be quickly forgotten.

As the build-up to the Scottish Cup final clash with Dundee United starts in earnest, Wright said: “They are hurting because we wanted to go finish in fifth place but now they can start preparing for the biggest game of their careers and we will be much better next weekend.

“Going into this game we wanted three points and we didn’t get them, so of course we are disappointed.

“Poor decision making cost us in the first half but the second half was poor, although it was totally understandable.

“They are hurting and that is the type of players they are. And that is why they have reached the cup final and qualified for Europe in the last two seasons.

“But the result will be easily forgotten because now they have something really, really special to look forward to.

“They have been magnificent for the last 10 months of competitive football, from the first day of pre-season, and they deserve to be playing in a cup final.”

Striker Stevie May got a late run from the bench and Wright revealed that wasn’t part of his game plan.

“I planned not to play Stevie at all but we wanted to win the game. You can’t worry about what might or might not happen.”
