Campaigning author George Monbiot is among a range of international experts who are attending the John Muir Conference 2014 in Perth.
The event, which began on Monday, will explore innovative solutions for the protection and enhancement of Scotland’s most important landscapes, and examine the relevance of Muir’s visionary principles in the 21st century.
John Jarvis, head of the US National Parks Service, and Nigel Dudley, from the International Union for Conservation of Nature, will also take part in the conference.
Hosted by a group of seven landscape, nature and heritage organisations, the conference comes at a time of growing interest in the management, ownership and protection of Scotland’s extensive areas of non-agricultural land.
Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said: “The John Muir Conference will bring organisations together to discuss the best way forward, ensuring that our landscapes and wildlife will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.”
