Councillors not ready to decide on Carnoustie business park plans
ByRichard Watt
Angus councillors have been warned that deferring plans for a Carnoustie business park could result in a costly Scottish Government appeal.
Development standards committee members voted 7-4 in favour of deferring judgment on an application by Angus Estates and Muir Group to develop in the Carlogie Road area.
The partnership applied in principle for an “employment area” east of the town, which was recommended for conditional approval by planning officers.
A competing bid via DJ Laing Homes is on the horizon for the northern Upper Victoria area outside town but councillors were told any delay to determination could be challenged with a government reporter, and Angus Council would foot the bill.
The rival bid is still in the consultation stage.
Making an amendment to the proposed approval, Carnoustie councillor Bill Bowles told fellow members “we have only got one shot at this so we have to get it right”.
