Hopes of saving historic sea wall from being swept into the Tay

Steps aimed at saving a historic site from being swept into the Tay have begun.
The whinstone harbour at Easter Mylnefield, Invergowrie, was damaged by the winter’s tidal swell and there is concern that the entire structure could be washed away.
The 200-year-old structure was built of the same material hewn from the local quarry to build Nelson’s Column in London.
It forms part of a wider area of quayside stretching to Kingoodie which carries a general Historic Scotland listing.
A group of residents bought the land around the harbour to preserve the environment, but they do not believe the wall is their responsibility.
Carse councillor Douglas Pover has taken action which could lead to the harbour being repaired.
“I’ve asked Historic Scotland to reassess the whole section to clarify the part or parts that are listed,” he said.
“This could help to have the harbour wall here repaired.Easter Mylnefield has a rich history and is well worth preserving.”
