Police have formally identified the driver of an HGV who died in a collision on the A92 in Fife on Monday afternoon as Robert Alexander MacLellan, 65, from Tain, Ross-shire
The lorry driver died after he was struck by a passing vehicle while parked in a lay-by between Crossgates and Cowdenbeath.
The tragedy happened around 1.15pm, with investigation work closing the route until later that night.
Police believe the collision may have been witnessed by passing motorists, particularly the driver of a small, black car.
The fatal collision caused traffic chaos in the east of Scotland, and came just 48 hours after 71-year-old Elizabeth Herd also diedfollowing a collision on the A92, near Lochgelly.
In the aftermath of the two fatalities, road safety campaigners voiced their concerns over the route and called on Transport Scotland, who oversee the country’s strategic roads, to take action.
A spokesman for the agency told The Courier that more than £235,000 had been spent improving safety on the A92 in Fife in the past year, with a similar amount to be spent in this financial year.
