A move to reduce the speed limit of a road that passes the school in Craigton of Monikie has been approved by Angus Council.
A petition to reduce the speed limit of the B961 road through the village to 30mph was signed by 270 people, including members of every household.
The strength of feeling in the village led to the issue coming to the council’s communities committee.
Fiona Gray, chairwoman of Monikie Primary School Parent Teacher Partnership, said residents had concerns about the safety of pupils crossing the road from Monikie Primary to Monikie County Park.
She said: “There have been a few near misses when staff have been marshalling children across the road from the school to the park, two of which I witnessed myself and one of which involved a police car.”
Ruth Failie, who spoke on behalf of the community of Craigton of Monikie, said: “The community is fully supportive of the speed limit reduction.
“This is a matter of great concern to not only those who have children that attend the school but to those in the wider area.”
